If you are planning to read it, I request you to go through it slowly, understanding every part.
I sometimes wonder about the gift given to us by Nature, i.e. The Brrrrain…
Have you ever appreciated the power of your Mind? Let’s get you started by thinking about the things you are capable of doing:
- Your capability to learn things is remarkable. How do you learn to operate a computer without any prior training, Learning of Language, Understanding concepts, cycling, and many many other complicated Tasks without even noticing them, which any machine may/may not do with the help of infinite programmers and infinite complex mathematical equations
- You can recognize someone by face, even if you met that person for a very short interval or saw him long back and mind you, you do all that in a fraction of a second. How do you traverse back in your memory to find that person, his characterstics, and EUREKA!!, You remember everything, how/where/when you met him. Extraordinary isn’t it?
- Apart from that, you can label unseen objects as a table or a chair or anything else, despite of the fact that you never saw such a chair ever in your life. Noone taught you that its a chair, but what you saw was a similar kind of object with 4 legs used for sitting, using this analogy , you predicted that its a chair.
- As I type here I see, that my typing speed has increased considerably over time. How did this happen, Am i learning the position of the keys without deliberately intending to do so? Or maybe its evolution? Like my brain thinks(:O) that this person is often going to use this keyboard so why not learn the positions so that his time is saved(not convinced?), Its in the analogy with evolution. The reason why our neocortex(Area of the Brain responsible for learning, intelligence and other hi-funda things) grew larger and larger over time.
- Lastly something which everyone sees, perceives i.e Dreams, Even when you sleep, The brain stimulates your cells in such a way that it looks like real sometimes. Not exactly!!.. People have done research on sleep, Dreams. I will try to put it in the forthcoming posts. But one thing I would like to share: Dreams don’t have a meaning, so please don’t go looking for something called Meaning of my Dreams(A peek into the future)
- There is an unending list of activities which your brain can do without you even noticing it or telling it to..
Trying to find some answers, such as :
What gives our Brain this power that a super-duper computer can’t even think of doing in its dream?
How is it wired up?
The answer might be hard, but we gotta start looking..
PS: I think that the Brain is a very precious gift bestowed on usĀ by the nature, so respect it and value it.

Welcome to Blogging World
Interesting Choice to start with. Just to add, the Brain is a network which is un-imitable with over 100 Billion Neurons !

Thanks!
Ya, Ill add that fact as well

High funda. Truly the topic of human brain is very intriguing. If you remove b from it it becomes rain, if you jumble, it becomes Brain Lara. Amazing.
Jokes apart, I have seen some documentaries and learned noting of it. I hope you will be shedding light on these issues in future.

I will try to share all my knowledge and learn from all others, coz according to me this topic of research isn’t much of a success at this time coz of lack of ideas, as to excel in this field we need different perspectives , different multidisciplinary ideas from many people..
Lastly, I am glad that you liked it, I will try to make it more informative and interesting next time

I always had these questions about brain.
1) Is intelligence proportional to the cubic size for humans?
2) Does more folds on outer layer = more memory?
3) Are memory and intelligence related?
Please do answer these in forthcoming posts.

These are very deep questions. I will try to answer them in the next post

Why do we need computers if you say our brains is so amazing…..which I do appreciate and fully agree with, but why cant a human brain match a simple microcomputer in speed and accuracy whereas it can outrun it in much more complex tasks of feature recognition, analogical reasoning and tasks involving prediction or creativity?
Would be glad if you can share your knowledge on this in future posts…

This is an interesting research that you have done. Mate, I will looking forward for read some more views of yours about human brain in the future.
My question to you would be:
Why does everyone of us have different capabilities of remembering the same things???
Comment by shiv mehta — January 30, 2010 @ 6:52 pm |
@ Dipanjan: Well you are absolutely right, computers do have such powers which indeed cannot be replaced by Human Brains. My next post will be on the same. Comparison between the Brain and Computers and the reason why we are lacking. Will fill in myself first throughout the week..
@Aditya: Thanks Bhai..
@Shiv:Well gotta dig deeper to find this one..

Nice read…dreams definitely are not a peak into the future as you say but i don’t agree that they have no meaning…they are a peek into the current mental state of the person and perhaps also how the person perceives his or her future………Sigmund Freud treated his patients with psychological problems by understanding their dreams
!

Correct!, How can I disagree to you Boss.
Anyway, that’s exactly what I am saying, Dreams present your current state of mind, If you think carefully(remembering your dream) you can correlate every image which came and why it came. Exceptions are always there though..

ya dude…we have crammed everything in very short amount of time..and we are god at it..thanx for establishing the fact…lol haha..

hey sagar.. nice chain…
I would like to comment on Dipanjan’s question about brain not being competent in accuracy and speed. Human brain was not evolutionarily developped for mathematical tasks, especially numerical ones. For major part in the history of our evolution we have been hunters and gatherers, fighting and surviving wild animals, so the basic wiring of our brains are armed with those qualities which are survival necessities, calculating ’34.56 X 78345 +456.3434/7652′ is certainly not one of them. It is with security and leisure that culture and hence mathematical necessities developped. For numerical abilities, accuracy and speed, very specialised kind of wiring is required which could be an expensive trade off for other holistic abilities. However there are some anomalies like shakuntala devi or ramanujan. What they had were also human brains.

when are you coming up with the next post? you raised quite a lot of questions in this one…waitin for the answers..
